Lami Health Foundation renders free medical services to over 13,000 patients in Benue

Thousands of residents in Ado State Constituency of Benue State, have  received free healthcare services through a medical outreach programme organised by the Lami Health Foundation's Medical and Surgical Outreach.

The initiative, according to a statement signed by Agbaji Samuel, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of  Assembly, started on Sunday September, 2025 in Igumale district and extended to other districts including Utonkon, Ari and Apa/Agila in the constituency, and ended on Sunday October 5th.

The medical team offered treatment to over 13,000 beneficiaries, and care for a variety of health conditions.

The Lami Health Foundation, is a pet project of  the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Chief Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, and has brought tremendous relief to the people of Ado Local Government Area through a comprehensive medical and surgical outreach.

The 7-day outreach, which commenced on September 28, 2025, and concluded yesterday, October 5, 2025, with a mop-up exercise at Apa-Agila, directly impacted the health and wellbeing of over 13,000 constituents who had been living with various medical and surgical conditions prior to the intervention.

Major cases attended to included: treatment for malaria, typhoid, ulcer, HBP, high blood glucose level (diabetes), HVS, cold and cough, amongst others. Additionally, Supplements, Vitamins, Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) and Delivery Packs were freely distributed. Surgical procedures were: hernia repairs, including complex cases such as umbilical and strangulated Inguinal hernias, hydrocelectomies, appendectomy, lipoma excision, lumps removal, abnormal growth removal, and joined fingers separation.

According to the bio-statistics from the outreach, a total of 13,117 beneficiaries received medical attention across the designated centres.

At Ukwonyo-Utonkon, a total of 2,217 general outpatient cases were recorded, alongside 2,457 eye cases. Additionally, 35 surgical procedures were successfully carried out, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in Ukwonyo to 4,709.

In Igumale, physicians attended to 1,919 general cases and 1,968 eye patients, while 58 surgical operations were conducted. The total number of beneficiaries at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Igumale, stood at 3,945.

At Ijigban, which served as the venue for the Ari outreach, 2,008 general cases were recorded, alongside 2,087 eye cases. Furthermore, 8 and 11 surgical procedures were performed on the first and second days respectively, bringing the total number of beneficiaries from the Ari outreach to 4,114.

Deferred surgical cases from previous centres were also addressed: 11 cases referred from Ukwonyo-Utonkon were successfully operated on in Igumale, while 10 cases from Igumale were handled in Ijigban—bringing the total number of deferred surgeries to 29.

During the mop-up exercise held at Apa-Agila, a total of 321 people were examined for eye problems and treated accordingly.

The mop-up exercise further ensured that no patient was left unattended, marking a successful conclusion to the impactful 7-day medical and surgical outreach.

A total of 140 medical procedures were performed and 3,667 medicated glasses (lenses) issued out, with some beneficiaries receiving two different types each for different purposes.

The Lami Health Foundation's Medical and Surgical Outreach for Ado Residents is unprecedented in the history of Ado LGA, directly impacting positively, the health and well-being of thousands of families and communities of Ado and beyond.
