Regina Akume, 80 others battle for APC Reps tickets In Benue.

No fewer than 81 aspirants are contesting Saturday’s House of Representatives primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State.

A list released in the early hours of Saturday showed that 14 aspirants are contesting for the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency seat, the constituency of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Seven aspirants are also contesting for the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency seat, where the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, hails from.

Among the contenders in the constituency is Akume’s wife, Regina Akume who is seeking reelection.

Similarly, Mrs. Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark is in the race  battling for third consecutive ticket.

She is contesting alongside three other aspirants for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency ticket.

Meanwhile, the APC secretariat in the state was filled with aspirants and party members waiting for the distribution of electoral materials for the primary elections.

The Benue APC primaries are coming amid renewed efforts by party leaders to resolve internal disagreements between APC factions  loyal to Governor Alia and Akume, after  two years of factional disputes within the party in the state.

As at the time of filing this report, members of the electoral committee from the national secretariat of the party arrived in the State secretariat and had commenced distribution of materials to various local government areas .
