2027: Ex- Minister Aondoakaa, Picks PDP Nomination Form, Pledges To End Winner-Takes- All- Politics In Benue

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa on Tuesday purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship expression of interest and nomination forms for Benue State, with a pledge to end “winner-takes-all politics” and restore peace and inclusiveness across the state.

Speaking shortly after obtaining the form, Aondoakaa said his administration, if elected, would prioritise security, the protection of lives and property, and the return of displaced persons to their ancestral homes.

“If I become governor, there will be peace. We will protect the lives and property of the people of Benue. That is the primary responsibility of government,” he said.

The PDP aspirant lamented the prevailing security challenges, noting that many farmers had been unable to return to their lands. 

He pledged to create conditions that would enable rural communities to be resettled safely rather than encouraging migration to urban areas or Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

“We will not encourage people to abandon their homes for towns or IDP centres. We will ensure they return to their ancestral homes and rebuild their lives,” he added.

On economic development, Aondoakaa pointed to the need to revive dormant industries, including a cement factory project initiated during the administration of former governor, George Akume. 

He said his government would engage investors to take over and operationalise the facility, creating employment opportunities for residents.

“I intend to open up the state by attracting investors. That cement industry will be revived, and our people will have jobs,” he stated.

He also underscored the role of traditional rulers in peacebuilding, promising to empower them to foster harmony within communities and strengthen ties with neighbouring states such as Nasarawa State, Taraba State, Ebonyi State, Enugu State and Cross River State.

According to him, cultural exchanges and collaboration among border communities would help to achieve lasting peace.

Aondoakaa further promised to promote youth participation in governance and development, while condemning political intolerance in the state.

“There is so much division in the state that if you belong to another party, you cannot enjoy your freedom. A PDP government will not tolerate that. You can belong to any party and still enjoy freedom of movement and worship,” he said.
